How to connect Y42 with Google Data Studio, Tableau, Looker and PowerBI?
Introduction
This article describes how to establish a connection between Y42 and Google Data Studio or any other data visualization tool (e.g. Tableau, Looker, PowerBI).
Most data visualization tools do have a connector to Google BigQuery. With our Automation tool, you can export all the tables you have built inside our Modeling tool to Google BigQuery in order to utilize them for dashboards and reports in any other data visualization tool.
Our best-practice advice is to create a dedicated dataset in your Google BigQuery project that includes all tables that you want to use for dashboards & reports. Thereafter, you can use these Google BigQuery tables as sources for your dashboards & reports in Data Studio, Tableau, Looker or PowerBI.
Prerequisites
In order to export a table to a Google BigQuery dataset, you will need the respective Service account key (JSON key) of your BigQuery project. Check out our "How to prepare Google Cloud for Y42" guide to see where how you can download this JSON key.
Setup instructions
Step 1
Our best-practice advice is to create a dedicated dataset in your Google BigQuery project that includes all tables that you want to use for dashboards & reports. To create a dataset in your Google BigQuery project, just go to your Google BigQuery workspace and create another dataset inside your project.
Step 2
Make sure that you have the Service account key at hand for the next step. If you don't have the key at hand, go to Service Accounts > KEYS and generate another JSON key.
Step 3
Now you can go to your Automation workspace in Y42 and create a BigQuery automation. You will need the Service account key from Step 2 for authentication.
Step 4
Select the table you want to export to BigQuery, select the dataset destination where you want to export the table and name the table.
Step 5
As soon as the export is finished you can go to Data Studio (or Tableau etc.) and utilize the table for a dashboard by adding the exported table as datasource to your Data Studio.
